I like to wander through and look at what people have to offer. Most of it (and pretty much all of it according to Michael) is junk. We figured out that the best stuff was inside the larger buildings.
I was in search of postcards. I'll admit that I've never really bartered before. I had a bit of a learning curve to conquer. The first vendor was overpriced, so I walked on. The next one overcharged me, and I really didn't know it until we visited others. I bought 2 postcards for $6. They weren't in sleeves and, after checking a chart, would consider them in good to fair condition. At least they had interesting scenes: the Huey P. Long Bridge at New Orleans and the natural bridge at Natural Bridge, VA.
Vendor numero tres gave me a buy-3-get-1-free deal, totaling $6. That was okay with me! I got the Washington National Cathedral (good perhaps because it is yellowed with age), Times Square at Night (very good), and two funny ones: "I'm not tryin' to be dramatic but to make it emphatic... They're bitin' down here!" with a big fish biting a guy's butt (good) and "We have no idea where we're going" with a family in their car driving by a sign that says "You are now entering Hell, next stop High Water" (good)
. The next vendor I checked out had some nice cards. I chose on depicting the LA State Capitol in very good condition. I paid $2 for it, compared to $3.50 minimum on eBay. Good deal!
The last vendor was the jackpot! He had my Greetings from... retro cards! I think I got a really good deal! I dug through all the states and found Louisiana and Mississippi ones (both in very good condition) for $3 each. Right past all the states he had several more, including these two, priced at $5. I got those two for $5. Go me! I bartered! Woohoo! BTW, the Louisiana one is going for $5.50 with shipping on eBay!
All in all, a good day! Now I know you can bring your dog, so next time Sadie is coming!
