This is an alley in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI. There are lots of them that thread their way through the downtown area by the harbor. St. Thomas is a very popular cruise ship port, so there are lots of touristy stores. Most of the stores in this area sold high-end jewelry, perfumes, art, and alcohol. You could find rum everywhere.
Michael and I spent a day in St. John, the smallest of the USVIs. We drove from Cruz Bay north along the coast to the Annenberg Plantation. Along the way there were several abandoned windmills left over from the sugarcane industry on the island.
On our way from Annenberg Plantation, we picked up a nail in our tire. While Michael was deciding what to do, I wandered around looking for photo ops. These stairs were built by the Dutch. Incidentally, our trip to the plantation was cut short when we found a nice big beehive in one of the ruins.

The sun peaks out at Magens Bay. We were advised to NOT watch sunsets on the beach because of sand fleas. We met a really cool lifeguard named Yello. He had been on the island for 20+ years and told us about Hurricane Hugo. Being from Louisiana always attracts hurricane stories.
Magens Bay.While in St. John, we went to Cinnamon Bay and Trunk Bay. The waves were CRAZY high. We got a bit too close to the beach at one point and were slammed by a wave. I was okay but Michael got a face full of sand.
The best beach, by far, was Coki Beach, St. Thomas, USVI. It was next to Coral World on the east side of the island above Red Hook. It was more of a "local" beach than a tourist beach. We bought some AWESOME food from a beachside vendor (crabcake sandwich!!) and snorkeled. I consider that the highlight of the trip.
